The Department of Transporation (DOTr) has recently announced the Cavite extension project will commence next month.
The department announced the construction of the 11.7-km railway extension, including eight new stations, through a Facebook post.
“Magsisimula na ngayong Abril ang actual construction ng LRT-1 Cavite Extension na magdurugtong sa Baclaran at Bacoor, Cavite,” the DOTr said in its Facebook page. The extension project will link LRT-1’s Baclaran station to Bacoor, Cavite.
Eight new stations would cut pass through the cities of Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite province.
The DOTr and the Light Rail Manila Corporation Manila Corporation (LRMC) aims to finish the construction by the fourth quarter of 2021.
The Cavite extension is expected to increase the daily passenger load of LRT-1 from 300,000 to 800,000, the DOTr said.
