The flagship project of the “Build, Build, Build” program, the East-West Lateral Road that will connect Agusan province to Bukidnon, is expected to hit its target completion date, said officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The project will span 59.504 km and will help promote biodiversity in the Northeastern and Northern Mindanao Corridor. Road opening and concreting, drainage, slope protection of structures/facilities with road safety devices will also be a part of the project.
“A total of 15.83 % is already accomplished as of this time and we are on track to hit our target timeline,” DPWH 13 Regional Director Engr. Pol M. Delos Santos said.
According to Delos Santos, the project, once completed, will also encourage farmers to till additional farmlands and spur interest in the fields of eco-tourism, agriculture, industry, and domestic trade.
“This project will surely provide an accessible route for the remote area settlers thus uplifting their economic growth,” he added.
Delos Santos that the road will reduce the hauling cost and travel time of agri-farm products to the nearest market, provide access to public facilities and services, as well as promote peace in conflict-affected areas.
“We are accelerating the implementation of this project and I believe we can complete this by 2023 or beyond although we are also seeing some hitches along the way, among them is the occurrence of unfavorable weather condition and peace and order, but ground works are ongoing,” the region’s top DPWH official said.
