Filipinos Paying It Forward
Filipinos are known for their “Bayanihan” spirit, especially in times of need. The community cooperates to help an individual or a certain sector without expecting anything in return.
This Filipino core value can be seen from the smallest of gestures to the biggest of achievements. Let’s take a look and remember some examples of Bayanihan that have happened over the past few years:
Spaying & Neutering Pet Initiative
Our pets are always there for us whenever we need them, so it’s only right that we return the favor and participate in projects aimed at them. Last August 2022, PAWSsion Project held a free kapon drive for International Homeless Animals Day.
The organization provided free spay and neuter services for 50 cats and 50 dogs. Low-cost vaccination services were also available onsite.
Pets are part of the family, that is why they must always be considered in every important milestone in life, like choosing a new home. They deserve a space of comfort, freedom, and safety.
Community Pantry

Last 2021, community pantries sprung up across the country to give aid to those most vulnerable during the peak of the pandemic. It once began as an initiative of Ana Patricia Non, who set up a crate filled with essentials like canned goods, vegetables, and rice in Maginhawa, Quezon City.
This initiative blossomed into different pantries with the same goal of helping fellow Filipinos with the tagline, “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan.” Other community pantries emerged in areas around Manila, Cavite, Iloilo, and many more.
Bike Sharing Initiative
In response to the shortage of available public transportation during the early months of the pandemic, several groups mounted bike-sharing initiatives to help medical frontliners to travel from home to work.
Now, more people are opting to ride a bicycle to reach places more efficiently and sustainably. Cities in Metro Manila, like Pasig and San Juan, are dubbed as bike-friendly cities in the country. On a grander scale, the real estate industry aims to provide greener and safer communities for the Filipino and for the environment.
These various initiatives prove that Filipinos embody the Bayanihan spirit at all times. Before the year ends, always remember to show gratitude to your loved ones who helped you surpass 2022.
