Local celebrities have been known for having homes that speak of style and grandeur. Their designs all vary from modern to classical and yet speak so much about their personalities. Check out the home of some of these celebrities-turned-politicians who will also hold office in June 2019 after winning this year’s mid-term elections.
Vilma Santos-Recto
Vilma Santos- Recto is known in the showbiz industry as the “Star for All Seasons” for playing roles in different movie genres. She also won this year’s midterm election as the Congresswoman for the 6th district. Prior to her recent position, she served Lipa City as Mayor in 1998 and won three consecutive elections and bagged the gubernatorial position in Batangas in 2007.
Her official residence in Batangas is called as the “People’s Mansion,” which holds most of her mementos taken from the events that she has participated in Batangas. The house was made entirely of wood but designed using a minimalist style. Aside from mementos, photos and awards are also up for display around the house. Her house in Quezon City, meanwhile, has a more modern vibe with its vibrant designs for accent pieces and choice of furnishings.
Richard Gomez/Lucy Torres
Celebrity couple Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres-Gomez are also included in the list of celebrities to run for office this year as Ormoc City mayor and congresswoman for the 4th legislative district, consecutively. Richard Gomez’s first political stint started in May 2016 as mayor of Ormoc City. His wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, was elected as a representative of the 4th district of Leyte in 2010 and was re-elected in the 2016 national elections.
During their careers in showbiz and before entering into politics, the couple bought a property in a well-known village in Manila. Both Richard and Lucy treated the property as an investment after having it renovated and redesigned to look according to the couple’s preferences. The result was a spacious and humble abode incorporating every item that represents memories of both Lucy and Richard and their child, Juliana.
The house is surrounded by green plants and trees making its white and minimalist design with black outline pop out. Inside is a spacious and brightly lit property with customized pieces of furniture. Each display is a work of art that, according to Lucy, has a story to tell.
Lito Lapid
Lito Lapid is one of the famous action stars in the local entertainment industry and was elected in this year’s mid-term election as senator. He started his career in showbiz as a stuntman before becoming an action star. It was in 2004 when he first ran as a senator and won the elections and was re-elected in 2010.
The actor’s showbiz stardom to political reign is deemed by many as a rise in the ranks coming from an impoverished family back when he was young. His luxurious mansion, according to many, is the product of all his hard work as an actor and as a politician. The mansion can be described as having grand furnishings and elaborate designs that are classic and elegant.
Bong Revilla/Lani Mercado-Revilla
Bong Revilla and Lani Mercado both left the showbiz industry to focus on their political careers, Bong as a senator and Lani as a Bacoor City’s mayor. The actor won his first senatorial candidacy in 2004 after succeeding his father and won his second term in the 2010 senatorial race. Lani’s political career started as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives for the 2nd District of Cavite.
The couple’s home in Alabang is a two-storey building with Asian design and a red motif compared to their European-inspired Cavite Home with its copper-gold-rust motif. The house in Alabang has a very spacious garage, a second-floor balcony overlooking a pool, and an al fresco area designed with cushioned sofas and chairs.
Jomari Yllana
Jomari Yllana is a Filipino actor, race car driver, model, and now councilor of Paranaque City’s first district. He first ran as councilor of the city in 2016 and won the elections. Prior to his political career, he was a member of the then famous 1990s teen group “Gwapings,” which spearheaded his popularity in the entertainment industry.
The actor’s new home, which he purchased in 2013, includes a garden and a swimming pool. They are both visible right upon entering the compound. The living room is decorated with his mom’s collection of saints, while the garage is his favorite part of the house. It’s because this is where he parks the car he uses for his racing hobby.
The homes of these celebrity politicians are all a statement of the owner’s sense of style and speak so much about their lives both as a politician and as an actor. They also represent memories of their past lives, which all contributed to who they are now whether as an entertainer, as a family person, or as a public servant.
