Get your home ready and auspicious for the Year of the Rooster 2017 with these few tricks and adjustments
According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2017 is the Year of the Fire Rooster. Alternatively known as the Year of the Fire Phoenix, this year is considered by many feng shui experts as a time for transformation. As the common tendency is to make changes to the home at the start of each year anyway, begin your own home’s transformation using tips that can help make it more auspicious for this Year of the Rooster 2017.
First, Make It Ready
Like you would at the start of each calendar year, Gregorian or Chinese, you begin by cleaning up the home. A general practice in feng shui is to clear clutter to improve the flow of energy. Indeed, the tidier the home being, the easier it is to arrange and decorate and make more auspicious for the coming new year.
Once you have readied your space, you can then determine the sectors of your home that are considered lucky and unlucky for 2017. Using a compass, start off by identifying the north, south, east, and west ends of your home.
Warding off Bad Luck
According to astrologer and feng shui expert Hanz Cua, the unlucky sectors of the home for 2017 are the south, southwest, west, and northwest. With that, he shares that placing too much emphasis on these parts may invite misfortune, health issues, accidents, and financial challenges. To avoid “activating” these unlucky sectors, Cua advises not to sleep or linger in these areas.
Additionally, he also advises to put five stones in a can, cover it, and place it on the south side of the home to help the metal element neutralize the earth element that brings misfortune. To counteract illness, one can place a glass of salt or salt lamp at the northwest sector of the home. A glass of water placed in the west sector can ward off anger and misunderstandings, while if placed in the southwest sector it can help avoid burglary, theft, and betrayal.
Inviting Good Fortune
Conversely, Cua also shares that there are ways to invite good fortune in 2017, particularly in the east, north, center, northeast, and southeast sectors of your home. Spending time in these areas, Cua says, may help enhance one’s luck, and making sure these spaces are well lit is one of the best ways to make them more attractive to positive energy.
Other experts also expound on the use of color to further bring good fortune to the home—colors that coincidentally also depend on the direction the home is facing. Should your home be in need of a fresh coat of paint, take into consideration the color that may best enhance the energies that flow in and around it.
1. Blue
Homes facing north are said to do well with blue and black element reflections, with the former being the recommended exterior color. Indoors, the ideal décor would be those that incorporate water elements, like a fountain or aquarium, but if wary of spills and maintenance, creatively incorporating blue and black décor would also suffice. It is believed that these color help attract career opportunities.
2. Green
The east or southeast direction is said to relate to the wood element, so homes oriented toward these directions are recommended to opt for green tones. Commonly associated with prosperity and success, green can be incorporated inside via indoor plants, or updating décor with pieces that sport shades like that of the 2017 Pantone color of the year.
3. Red or Yellow
For houses facing south, red is the recommended exterior color, which is said to be helpful in attaining luck for recognition and fame. Using a red night-light inside the home is believed to help increase its energy flow. Properties facing the northeast or southwest are most suited to use yellow, especially those intent on gaining more knowledge. The presence of yellow elements inside your home can be increased by featuring ceramics or décor with earthy tones.
4. Gray or White
A gray or white exterior is believed to work best with homes that face the west or northwest direction, and is said to be particularly favorable to homes that have children because of the peace and purity it represents. These colors may look very basic and difficult to apply as décor, but they can work definitely well as the color of centerpieces like a sculpture or a piece of furniture. Alternatively these colors can also be used in curtains, seat covers, and pillowcases.
