How to Donate to Cherish-A-Home, a Fundraising Partnership by Lamudi and Virlanie

Virlanie Foundation, a private non-profit organization that was established in 1992 continues its mission to help enrich the lives of children in need in the Philippines with its partnership with Lamudi. The joint project, Cherish-A-Home Fundraising, was introduced at The Outlook: Real Estate Conference 2019 held at the Makati Shangri-la last October 17. 

The fundraising will help Virlanie’s Residential pillar, which gives children a family-oriented environment that fosters a sense of belonging, identity, and origin. The Residential pillar has a bed capacity of 180 children and has a total of 33 house parents and 11 social workers that help reintegrate children back to society. 

Virlanie currently has eight homes divided into three clusters, each with a different set of needs: 

HOMES FOR BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN

Babies and Toddlers Home

This home in Makati City was created in February 2013 after Virlanie closed the Mother & Child Home and the Toddler Home. The children from these homes were transferred to the Babies and Toddlers Home, which cares for children 0-4 years old, as well as selected children with special needs. The home has 1 lead house parent, 2 social workers, 11 caregivers, and 1 house helper.

Marco Polo Care Center

This home in Makati City is the first home of boys and girls aged 4-6 years old after they are taken in by Virlanie. Virlanie’s social workers handle the cases of these children to assess whether they can be reunified with their families. Those who cannot be reunified with their parents will either be put up for adoption or stay in other Virlanie Homes for long-term care. This home has 3 house parents, 1 social worker, 1 caregiver, and 1 house helper.

Masaya Home

This home in Makati was opened in June 1995 and cares for children aged 7-12 years old. Masaya Home is one of Virlanie’s family homes, where the children live and grow up with the house parents. All the children in Masaya Home go to school and participate in extra-curricular activities. The home currently has 4 house parents, 1 social worker, and 1 house helper.

This home in Makati City was established in April 1993 and cares for girls aged 13-18 who came from difficult situations such as physical and/or sexual abuse. The young girls who are under the care of Elizabeth Home undergo the Independent Living Program (ILP) to prepare them for a sustainable life. House parents and social workers closely monitor the girls to develop their self-esteem and find their place in society. The home has 2 house parents, including 1 lead parent, and 1 social worker.

This home in Makati City has been a stable home for children since May 1996, giving them a place where they can study and prepare for an independent adult life. The home was later on turned into a home caring exclusively for teenage boys. The children also go through the Independent Living Program (ILP) to prepare them or an independent life outside Virlanie. House parents and social workers guide the boys to develop their self-esteem and find their place in society. The home has 3 house parents, including 1 lead parent, and 1 social worker.

This home in Makati City opened in 2006 to accommodate the increasing number of children with special needs being brought to Virlanie, most of which came from the Reception and Action Center (RAC) of Manila or have been referred to Virlanie by other institutions. Aime Home also accommodated some special needs children who were surrendered by their own families because they lack knowledge and resources to care for these children. The home has 1 project lead, 8 house parents, 1 social worker, 2 SPED teachers, 1 occupational therapist, and 1 house helper.

Jade Home

This home in Dasmarinas, Cavite was initially opened in November 1995 in Makati City as Virlanie’s first home for children with special needs. However, because of the growing number of children with special needs, the home was transferred south of Manila to give way to Aime Home. Jade Home is now in the countryside, where it can provide enough space for therapeutic activities and exercises, and gardening. This home has 1 project lead, 10 house parents, 1 social worker, 2 SPED teachers, 1 occupational therapist, and 3 house helpers.
