In this entry of Lamudi Stories, we will join SEO Manager Cess Padilla as she talks about her daily responsibilities that highlight the global nature of Lamudi while still being able to maintain a positive work-life balance.
Hello, I’m Cess. I’m Lamudi’s SEO Manager. In a nutshell, I make sure that the Lamudi website ranks at the top of Google search engine results pages. Whenever people search for keywords related to real estate, the goal is for Lamudi to be in the top positions of the search results.
My position has continuously evolved over the past four years, stretching back even before Lamudi acquired MyProperty.ph in 2015 to create the country’s leading online property marketplace. However, a big chunk of my work has revolved around data, including white papers, presentations, training materials, and journals.
I am currently the most tenured member of Lamudi’s Global SEO team so I have also been helping my newly-hired colleagues in other countries with their projects.
4:30 to 7:30 am – Early morning grind
For my typical day, I try to wake up at 4:30 am but I usually get moving by 5:00 am to prepare for the carpool that picks me up at 5:45 am. I live in Tanza, Cavite so I usually arrive at about 7:30 am. We make it a point to leave early to beat the morning rush, or else our two-hour travel time will stretch to three hours.
8 am to 11 am – Configuring
I start my day at 8:00 am. This is where I start checking the Lamudi website’s statistics, including traffic, leads and page views, and checking the work done by IT, as they usually work at night.
11 am – Business as usual
By 11:00 am, as the rest of the local team arrives in the office, meetings start to take place. Once the meetings are done, I move on to my projects, which include writing white papers, creating web pages, and coordinating with designers.
12 nn – Break and side hustle
I take my lunch at 12:00 nn, which is also when I make additional income by selling cooked food to my colleagues. I am not the chef though. My partner loves to experiment with recipes she sees online, the results being the food that I sell in the office.
1 pm to 3 pm – Wearing multiple hats
I continue with my meetings and projects at 1:00 pm, including helping other departments such as the marketing team with the execution of their newsletters. At around 3:00 pm, I usually jump into a meeting with my boss, who is still based overseas but will be moving to the Philippines by October or November. The things that we talk about include accomplished and ongoing projects, issues that have come up, and website statistics such as traffic.
5 pm onwards – Capping the day off
I leave the office at around 5:00 pm and get home by 8:30 pm. I usually reserve evenings for alone time with my partner, but there are days when I need to log on to attend a team meeting. It’s important for me to join these calls because there are the only instances where we get to talk as a team. This includes Mexico, which is one of the top three markets of Lamudi in terms of traffic, along with the Philippines and Indonesia.
I still have time for personal activities though, such as watching anime series and reading manga during weekends. I also like watching superhero movies, and since my partner likes horror movies, I am forced to watch them too. My partner and I usually plan a trip for long weekends. We like going to the beach. I also jog whenever I find time to do so, as well as engage in other possible workouts.
