The following are a few productive activities people can do while commuting
As reported in October 2015, Metro Manila was declared the country with the “worst traffic on Earth” in a global evaluation conducted by Waze, a GPS-based navigation app. Manila scored 0.4 on a city level on the traffic index for having the longest minutes spent on the road while commuting from one place to another, especially while traversing EDSA.
To combat the wasted minutes most workers in the metro spend on commuting, they can use it to their advantage and do something worthwhile. If they are not comfortable with sleeping in public transport, the following are a few productive activities they can do instead.
1. Catch Up
Know the current events around you; with your Internet-ready device, you can catch up with the latest local and global news online. You can also login to your email account to send those outdated replies. It is a good time to clear your inbox as well. On your social media accounts, check out what’s up with your family and friends. If you do not have any motion sickness, it is finally the time to watch your neglected TV series or read your latest purchased book of your favorite author.
2. Use Your Ears
Another way to stay connected with current events is to listen through the radio or through digital media. There are podcasts you can listen to in real time or you can download the previous batch of podcasts before you commute. There are audio books of renowned authors you can enjoy while commuting. Also, there are audio books you can purchase or download for free that will teach you to speak and understand a new language. Nowadays, you can listen to class discussions to learn about a topic of interest online as well.
3. Be Ready for the Day
During this time alone, not only can you give yourself a pep talk for more self-confidence to face the busy day ahead, but you can plan how your day will go as well. You can make a note for each task and ponder on how you will be executing it with efficiency and speed. During this “me-time,” you can also update your “to-do list” by ticking off what you have already accomplished and adding other tasks you need to do.
4. Count Your Blessings
Sure, you might be moving slowly on the road or worse, stuck in traffic, but that does not mean you should be dwelling on the negative. Drive the bad vibes away with the good by focusing on what you have been blessed with, and what you have achieved so far. Recounting the moments you were happy and contented will help you feel instantly better at the start of your day.
5. Relax
While it could be stressful as you count down the minutes until you reach your workspace, this moment is the perfect time for you to practice patience and just let calmness overpower your worries and stress. Use this moment to unwind and to prepare yourself for the upcoming tasks. A clear and peaceful mind will help you be more effective in your work to produce positive results as you get on with your day.
