The stretch of powdery white sand and the coconuts aligned behind the shores are as breath-taking as the Caribbean. Shorthly after dawn women clad in “malongs,” the native wrap- around clothing are the usual sight as they go around selling seafoods like crab, lapu-lapu, and red grouper, bounteous in the area. However, Gumasa today remains largely under developed. The resorts in the area are equipped with the simple facilities such as picnic sheds, tables, and cottages and mostly cater to local tourist. For those opting to stay overnight, beach goers will have to either pitch tents at the beach or pay for accommodation at the nearby resorts. Gumasa holds a lot of promise. If developed, the area can become a tourist haven. For their part the local private sector has become active in pursuing tourism development projects. Among them are the Reyes and Adarna families who own separate white sand beachfront properties in Gumasa. They are now looking for possible joint venture partners/ investors to develop their properties into world-class beach resorts.
