Barangay Malamig is a quaint barangay situated within the second district of the city of Mandaluyong. The barangay takes up a land area of 29.52 hectares.

As of the 2010 census, 7,007 people have been recorded to have been living in Barangay Malamig. This number pales in comparison to the population of Barangay Addition Hills, which is the largest barangay in terms of population, but is only the second largest one in terms of land area.

The barangay is situated in areas that Boni Avenue passes through, thus making the barangay accessible to key areas in the city, considering that the avenue leads to EDSA.

Buying a condominium unit in Barangay Malamig may be relatively cheap or expensive, depending primarily on various factors, including the size of the unit to be bought, the location of the condo in the city, and its developer. Prices range from Php2.1 million to Php10.1 million.

Barangay Malamig in Mandaluyong

Buy a Condominium in Malamig MandaluyongBarangay Malamig is one of the 27 barangays in the city of Mandaluyong. It is sandwiched by several barangays, but is situated in one of the highly accessible thoroughfares in the city. Despite its name, the barangay doesn’t really experience especially chilly weather, unless the general climate in the area is being buffeted by the chilly atmosphere brought about by the “ber-months” or by the seasonal monsoons and typhoons that the Philippines and its people are already generally used to.

There appears to be no account that would purport to tell the story of how the Barangay came to be, or how it got its name. The city of Mandaluyong, however, bears a handful of colorful legends of how it was formed or named. One of the interesting legends surrounding the area is the one that involves the forbidden romance shared by Manda and Luyong, two starstruck lovers whose love was opposed by no other than Manda’s father, the datu of the tribe both were in. Following that, perhaps the area where Barangay Malamig now stands was once a plateau or a valley where the cool breeze regularly passed through.

What to do in the City

The city of Mandaluyong is ideally situated in one of the most accessible areas in the city, considering that Boni Avenue cuts through a portion of the barangay. This leads to a plethora of establishments catering to each and every need of anyone and everyone who might find themselves within the metes and bounds of the city.

For instance, working people may find solace in the fact that a portion of the Ortigas Central Business District falls within the boundaries of Mandaluyong. In fact, the entire CBD is shared by the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, and Quezon City. Students, on the other hand, would probably rejoice in being located fairly close to famous high schools and colleges in the area, like La Salle Greenhills, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, Saint Pedra Poveda College, and the University of Asia and the Pacific.

Shangri-La Plaza is also located adjacent to SM Megamall, and has been providing guests with the best retail experience it has to offer since it opened in 1991. The Greenhills Shopping Center in the nearby city of San Juan is also well within a short drive from Mandaluyong.
