Trece Martires is a fourth class city in the province of Cavite, and was formerly the provincial capital. The city was named after the Thirteen Martyrs of Cavite, a group of patriots who were convicted of rebellion. They were executed by the Spaniards on September 12, 1896 during the Philippine Revolution. Trece Martires City consists of thirteen barangays, and each of these barangays was named after one of the Thirteen Martyrs of Cavite to honor their heroism.
Before becoming a city, Trece Martires was one of the largest and most remote barrios of Cavite. It was formerly known as Quinta or Quintana, and was originally a part of the municipality of Tanza. Trece Martires City is situated in the center of Cavite province, and is approximately 48.3 kms (30.0 miles) away from Manila. It is adjacent to Tanza, Indang, Naic, General Trias City, and Amadeo.

Although Imus has become the present capital city of Cavite province, most of the provincial offices are still located in the city of Trece Martires.
