The Homey Enclave of the South and Its Origin

Dubbed as the “City of Character,” one might find it suspect how Tagaytay came to have its assonant name. According to a folktale, the name is derived from a story about a father and his son. It was said that the two went out to hunt for a wild boar but then riot ensued and the wild boar attacked them. The son then shouted “taga!,” which means “cut” and then “Itay,” which denotes “father.” The panic-stricken son was apparently wary of his father being attacked by a wild boar he quickly implored the latter to kill the beast. Him shouting “Taga, Itay!” was so loud he was heard all over the place and thus the place was known to bear the name “Tagaytay” in remembrance of a caring son, fearing the demise of his father.

Finding a Condo Property in the City of Character

Soothing breeze from pine trees that line the roads of the city is very much iconic of Tagaytay that it can be said to come next to our country’s summer capital, Baguio. But more than the pine trees, bulalo, and the majestic view of Taal Lake that make Tagaytay one feisty city for love bug–bitten couples tying the knot, Tagaytay is popular mainly because it is a hotspot for residential developments. Many real estate giants like Megaworld Corp., SMDC, Robinsons Land, and Ayala Land have marked their respective territories in Tagaytay with collections of villas, sophisticated subdivisions, and world-class condos for both working Filipinos who want to own a house and foreigners who want to settle in the Philippines.

A Southern Tiger City Roars in Real Estate Destination

Situated south of Metro Manila, the scenic Tagaytay City is accessible via Sta. Rosa in Laguna southeast or Aguinaldo Highway in Cavite southwest. Tagaytay has been dubbed as the second summer capital of the Philippines after Baguio City due to its all-year cool climate, thanks to its geographical location sitting atop the ridge of a prehistoric volcano.

Tagaytay is also a popular destination for tourists and local visitors who want a breathtaking view of Taal Volcano and the surrounding lake, as well as the “crater lake” within the volcano itself. The entire Taal Volcano Protected Landscape is home to some endemic species of water snakes and sardine fish, particularly the tawilis variety, the only one of the sardinella variety that thrives in fresh water.

On the real estate front, Tagaytay is a beneficiary of the real estate sector’s development windfall, as it taps into the ever accelerating demand of residential properties near favored tourist destinations. While some choose those with a view of the beaches, many more choose Tagaytay with its mountain getaway and volcanic-by-the-lake panoramic backdrop. Footage of Tagaytay even made it to pop singer Katy Perry’s music video for the song Roar.

Places to Visit in Tagaytay

For those who want to enjoy horseback riding and crater-lake trekking, there is the Picnic Grove Complex, and for elevated panoramic viewing, there is People’s Park in the Sky.

For those who love eating, there are many food places to choose from. The quirkiest of them may well be Qiwellness Living, an Asian fusion teahouse, bathhouse and spa destination.
