Affordable Staycation in Alabang

The burgeoning southern hotspot of Alabang opens up opportunities for professionals to enjoy staycationing amidst a busy and industrious district.

The need for short-term means of unwinding and relaxing from the hectic city gave way to the popularity of staycations--short term holidays that involve enjoying activities in your own house, or going to nearby accommodations to rest, swim, and unwind.

Booming financial and lifestyle districts such as Alabang offer more than just high-end shopping centers and multicultural dining places near commercial areas. The posh and busy barangay also offers staycation accommodations that cater to the needs, preferences, and budget of every working southern individual.

Hotspot of the South

Property advisor Knight Frank dubbed Alabang as the "next hotspot" in southern Metro Manila due to its bustling IT-related and BPO industries hub, burgeoning shopping centers, and bustling roads that lead to other key areas around Metro Manila and to the southern parts of Luzon.

Barangay Alabang reportedly gets its name from the historic Rio de Alban, a river that runs through it all the way to other areas of Muntinlupa City. Alabang developed into a booming business district in the 1990s through the efforts of Filinvest Land, the premier real estate developer behind Filinvest City, Alabang's most well-known investment and lifestyle district.

A large portion of Barangay Alabang makes up Ayala Alabang, another posh and vibrant residential area and investment hub.

Ayala Alabang was separated from the original Barangay Alabang through Batas Pambansa Bilang 219 that was approved on March 25, 1982. The barangay was originally named Barangay New Alabang.

Don Enrique Zobel was appointed as the barangay's first chairperson in compliance with section 3 of Batas Pambansa Bilang 219. The barangay was renamed Ayala Alabang in 2003 after a public hearing by the City Government of Muntinlupa.

Like its predecessor, Ayala Alabang is notable for its upscale neighborhoods accompanied by premier shopping centers such as the famous Ayala Alabang Center and prime educational institutions such as the De La Salle de Santiago Zobel, PAREF Woodrose School, and the Maria Montessori Foundation.

Popular Destinations

Both Alabang and Ayala Alabang are known for their iconic shopping centers, Festival Mall and the Alabang Town Center, that attract even northerners to explore the heart of the south.

While shopping, or perhaps mall hopping, is usually on the top of every staycationer's list, there are other activities that can be enjoyed and accomplished even during a short-term holiday stay.

Alabang has many parks such as Filinvest, Cuenca Park, and the River Park at Festival Mall. These sprawling green spaces are perfect for those who want to take a break from the urban scenery. The open spaces can be used for biking, jogging, walking pet dogs, or just sitting by the benches.

If you are looking for food spots and entertainment hubs to enjoy with family or friends, Alabang has a selection of places that offer a fun dining experience coupled with board games and fun puzzles.

Other places of interest that make Alabang the next go-to destination include the Japanese Cemetery (a garden cemetery that serves as the final resting place of Japanese soldiers during World War II), the Jamboree Lake (the Philippines' smallest lake that also serves as a historical archive for the remnants of the war), and St James the Great Parish in Ayala Alabang.

Have a Staycation in Alabang

While Alabang is known for its posh lifestyle and environment, staycationers on a budget can still avail of this southern hotspot's conveniences and variety of destinations and leisure areas.

Due to Alabang's booming investment hubs, the majority of the staycation spots are available in vertical residential areas. There are several fully-furnished studio units that come with complete utilities and with the amenities offered at around Php 15,000 up to Php 38,000 depending on the condominium and the location.

If you are looking for a little bit more space but still want a hotel-like staycation for yourself, then one-bedroom units are also available. These single bedroom condo units can be leased at Php 17,000 up to Php 25,000.

Couples, families, and groups of friends can avail of more spacious units that come with top quality furnishings, complete utilities, Internet connection, and resort-like amenities. Two-bedroom units or bigger units for rent can cost around Php 20,000 up to a whopping Php 50,000.

Whether it is a space for individual use or a suite that can accommodate bigger groups, Alabang has a plethora of staycation lodgings available for all. Likewise, the nearness of these short-term residences to prime establishments and roads allows tenants to explore the south.
